Fish Identifier AI: FishSnap Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

Summary

Your catch log is stored on your device and there is no account. When you identify a fish, the photo is sent to our AI server, which forwards it to OpenAI and does not store it. The app includes Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics.

This policy covers the Fish Identifier AI: FishSnap app for iPhone and iPad, published by mk0.net, an independent app studio. It is written from what the app actually does in its code. Questions: hello@mk0.net.

What we receive

Photos you choose to identify pass through our AI server to OpenAI and back. Our server does not store photos or results. It uses a random install ID only to limit abuse.

What stays on your device

  • Your catches, photos, identification results, ratings, albums and optional locations are stored on this device.
  • Voice notes, Live Photos and your profile picture are stored on this device.
  • A scan credit counter and a random install ID are kept in the Keychain on this device and survive reinstalling the app.
  • Settings are stored on this device.

We cannot see this data. It is not uploaded to us.

Permissions the app may ask for

  • Camera: Asked when you take a photo of a fish to identify it.
  • Photos: Asked when you pick a photo, choose a profile picture, scan your library for fish photos on the device, or save images to Photos.
  • Location: Asked only if you choose to tag where you caught a fish. Saving location is off by default.
  • Microphone: Asked when you record a voice note for a catch. Recordings stay on the device.
  • Notifications: Asked when you turn on reminders, which are scheduled on the device.

Every permission is optional and can be changed later in the iPhone Settings app. Features that need a permission you decline simply stay unavailable.

Data that leaves your device

The app talks to the following services. Each receives only what is listed, and only for the purpose shown.

  • mk0.net AI service (runs on Cloudflare Workers) and OpenAI (photo identification): Only when you identify a fish or create a catch story: the resized photo, your app language and a random install ID. Species details are requested with the species name only. Their privacy policy.
  • Wikipedia (Wikimedia Foundation) (background information): When you open species details: the species name and your language code. Their privacy policy.
  • Open-Meteo (historical weather for a saved place): Only for a catch with a saved location, when weather is loaded: its coordinates and date. Their privacy policy.
  • Google Firebase Analytics (app usage analytics): App usage events, such as when an identification is made, with an app instance ID and device information. Their privacy policy.
  • Google Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports): Crash reports and error logs with device information. Their privacy policy.
  • WishKit (in-app feature request board): Only if you open the feature request board and post or vote: your request text and an anonymous ID. Their privacy policy.
  • RevenueCat (subscription management): Only when you view plans, buy, restore or check a subscription: an anonymous app user ID and your App Store purchase status. Their privacy policy.

Sensitive information

Catch locations are precise if you add them. They are stored only on this device and are sent to Open-Meteo only to load weather for that catch.

Purchases

Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, Apple ID, card or payment details. The app checks your subscription status through RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous ID and your purchase status, not your identity.

Ads, tracking and analytics

No ads, no tracking across apps, and we never sell your data. The app includes Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics, which may collect basic usage, device and crash information. You can switch analytics off in the app's Settings.

Account

No account needed.

Children

Fish Identifier AI: FishSnap is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Keeping and deleting your data

Delete single catches in the app or use the clear all data option in Settings. Export as JSON or CSV first if you want a copy. Deleting the app removes local data, though the Keychain scan counter may remain.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA or KVKK), you have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data. Because the app keeps your records on your own device, you can do most of this directly in the app or by deleting it. For anything else, or for data held by a service listed above, email hello@mk0.net and we will help within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If the app starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the date below before the change ships.
